For the large dinnerplate dahlias, we encourage you to pinch out the center-growing tip right above the 3rd full sets of leaves. It will make the plant less top-heavy to where you have a need for staking. Consider using a slug bait before its fully grown. Colors can vary in intensity due to soil, weather, and humidity.
